Background

When I was in high school, my driver's ed teacher told me I’d make a good accountant. This led me to call nearly every CPA I could find in Cheyenne, Wyoming, to ask if I could talk to them about their careers. Those conversations helped me land a job as an administrative assistant at a small firm. They knew I was interested in pursuing accounting, so they let me shadow staff and assist with entry-level accounting tasks. It was inspiring to see how impactful a CPA can be.

After moving to Minnesota for college, I hit the ground running, taking more accounting classes than a most first-year students, and I loved it. My previous cold calls paid dividends, leading to internships throughout college. One firm I’d spoken with didn’t have internship opportunities, but I interviewed with them the fall before senior year and accepted an offer for a full-time position in Fort Collins after graduation. Those early calls truly shaped my career, and the relationships I built continue to guide me today.
